Links E mail	Pictish Silk Banners was a project organised by Highland Council for Archaeology week and The Big Draw in October 2002. Children and adults from Ross and Cromarty were invited to look at their local Pictish Stones and create their interpretations of designs firstly on paper and then painted on silk.  These individual pictures were then assembled to make 4 large silk painted banners by local artist Heather Butlin. Click on the links on the left to look at the individual silk paintings and the completed banners. Although the work of  Pictish artists in the 3rd - 9th centuries AD was the inspiration for this project, you will see the results are vibrant, colourful and contemporary.
This project has been announced as  runner up  in the Drawing Inspiration award organised by the National Campaign for Drawing .  The banners are currently on display in Highland Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness.
